Never say never

I used to be somewhat of a runner before I ever got into cycling. Now, I hardly ever run--only in the off-season to do something different when it's cold outside. The furthest I've ever run was in a 20-hour adventure race. I think we did somewhere between 30-40 miles on foot..and then I promptly quit running after that because my body was so broken.

But now, my massage therapists Amy and Shannon have me set on this new obsession: Qualifying for the Boston Marathon. After hearing their detailed description of the race I can't help wanting to do it. The problems/issues with this are:

1) I need new shoes
--This should be easy to overcome. Big Peach Running Company should be able to get me set up right.

2) I don't run anymore
--This one will be a little harder to overcome. I'm not quite starting from scratch--but I have a long way to go.

3) I am a mountain bike racer
--I think with some good advice from my coach (who also happens to be a multisport athlete) I will be able to get it done smartly. I won't start training until my "A" mountain bike races are over with for the year, anyway. In fact, I think this will be a nice way to do some cross-training and build more aerobic capacity during what will likely be a very busy Fall Semester at school. In the end, it should help my overall fitness on the bike.

4) I need to find a qualifying race
--I am looking for a FUN late fall marathon that is not sold out yet. Unfortunately, Chicago is sold out. I am open to suggestions.

With all the running experts around me (Dr. Josh Glass, Kyle O'Day, Big Peach Running Co, and of course Amy and Shannon at Georgia Sports Massage), there is no reason I should not be able to do this right!
